Peace for Ukraine

Peace for Ukraine - Original acrylic painting by Paulina Ponsford

"We want to be victorious. We want to prevail for the sake of life". President Volodymyr Zelensky

We watch in horror as Ukraine is being cowardly and relentlessly attacked by Russian troops. Yes, countries of the world have imposed sanctions on Russia; but we are all too afraid of the big bully, of Vladimir Putin. We are fearful of starting World War III, but it's too late for that; Putin has already started WW III.

How many lives will have to end because of this war before the rest of the world truly helps by closing air space in Ukraine?

This war is not just about Ukraine and Russia; it's more significant than we can imagine at the moment. This war is about fighting for our freedom, fighting for our values, fighting the bully, a modern-day David and Goliath. This war will affect every country, every person, every one of us sooner or later.

President Volodymyr Zelensky is a hero, an example of how leaders of the world should be in an era where most leaders have a selfish agenda for their own financial and personal gains. President Zelensky chose not to accept the offer from the USA to escape with his family. No, he is fighting this war with the unrelenting and brave people of Ukraine. President Zelensky is teaching us with his integrity and values to stand up for ourselves, for our families, for our country, no matter how unprecedented are the challenges we face.

I pray that God will have mercy on us, that this war will bring a victorious end for Ukraine, for the world; that this will indeed be a modern-day story of David and Goliath.

"Peace in your country doesn't depend anymore only on you and your people; it depends on those next to you, on those who are strong. Strong doesn't mean big. Strong is brave and ready to fight for the life of his citizens and citizens of the world, human rights for freedom, for the right to live decently and to die when your time comes, and not when it's wanted by someone else, by your neighbor.

Today, the Ukrainian people are defending not only Ukraine; we are fighting for the values of Europe and the world, sacrificing our lives in the name of the future. That's why today, the American people are helping not just Ukraine, but Europe and the world to keep the planet alive, to keep justice in history". - Transcript of President Zelensky's speech to US Congress.
